The Hoax
STARRING
Richard Gere, Alfred Molina, Hope Davis, Marcia Gay Harden, Stanley Tucci, Eli Wallach
WHAT THE BOX DOESN'T TELL YOU
Boring....oh wait, I save the opinion for the next part. The box doesn't tell you exactly how much no one cares about this story, at least not today. But that's about the long and the short of it. While this is both good and bad, The Hoax is the fictitious account of Clifford Irving's (Gere) bio on Howard Hughes, which alarmed republicans during the Nixon-era to the extent that they conducted various crimes and misdemeanors at DNC Headquarters at the Watergate.
WHY I WOULD RENT IT AGAIN
Nope, wouldn't. Had high expectations for the film and specifically the performance of Gere, but it was Molina who bumbled is way into the talent portion of the action. The writing didn't hold my attention and I thought the direction particularly evasive as an avid fan of the biography.
WILL MY GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND LIKE IT?
Depends if they were obsessed with Irvin, Hughes, Nixon or 70's politics - maybe.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Right - I'm sure there are, but if the movie isn't worth it, are the special features?
